Muy Bueno - Mexican Restaurant Favorites

Ah... the ¡mucho gusto! of Mexican food. If there is one thing tempting that Arizona can offer the discriminating palate, it is an abundancia of mouth-watering Mexican food. Regardless of where your flavor or taste's run, your craving can be sated anywhere in the state. Here are some of our favorite Mexican food restaurants in the Phoenix area.

Mango's Mexican Cafe and Bakery

Being drawn to anything mango, I had to check out Mango's Mexican Cafe and Bakery nestled in downtown Mesa.

With festive music playing overhead, bright, yet rustic decor, huge glass jugs filled with Aguas Frescas (fresh water) in flavors like watermelon, strawberry, and of course mango, and hands down the best Mexican food this side of the border, dining here feels a little like vacation.

Order breakfast, lunch or dinner at the counter, pick a table inside or out and before you can finish your complimentary chips and salsa, your food is served.

Mango's has plenty of tasty treats and entrées on the menu, but my absolute favorite dish is their shredded chicken enchiladas. Served with rice and beans, drenched in sauce and loaded with tender chicken, they are muy fantásticos. - Michelle Lawrence

Carlsbad Tavern

Carlsbad Tavern, not to be confused with Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, is a hot spot for Mexican cuisine in Scottsdale, Arizona. It offers fantastic food at very affordable prices. The outdoor patio is beautiful with a cooling waterfall and stream that adds to the ambiance. Inside, the restaurant is themed around caves and caverns. Intimate seating and a relatively quiet atmosphere completes your experience.

My favorite dish on the menu is the Taos Pork Tenderloin — apricot and habañero glazed pork tenderloin grilled over pecan wood with fried leeks. It is served with a sweet potato and veggies.

Let me warn you though, if you do not like spicy food, this is NOT a good place to dine. However, if your idea is “the hotter the better,” then bring on the HEAT! - Jen Wolfe

Via DeLosantos

Christmas lights and neon beer signs light up sports memorabilia and tequila bottles in every possible corner of the bar area inside Via DeLosantos. It's crammed with friendly and open groups of people of all ages in the modest space.

The Pollo Fundido Fajita Dinner is a meal that will add to the waistline. It's a mouth-watering treat stretching from one side of the plate to the other on a massive tortilla smothered in cheeses and loaded with chicken, peppers and onions. It's cooked just right so that the edges still have crunchiness to them that breaks open the flavor in your mouth from the first bite. - Mike Cavaroc

Rito's Market and Mexican Take Out

In one of the barrio's of Phoenix is Rito's Market and Mexican Take Out. Close to downtown, Ritos is a lunch time favorite and great dinner option when headed to a Suns or Diamondbacks game or any other downtown event. Located in a converted house, it's a bit hard to find but worth the search and wait during peak times.

If you are in town only briefly, DO NOT MISS Ritos and their Green Chile Burrito served enchilada style with green chile sauce. This is the best green chile you will ever have, bar none.

Ritos is a take out place and there is no inside dining, however they do provide tables and chairs outside on the patio/front yard. Also, keep in mind that Ritos is cash only. - Alex Highland
