Arizona Rocks Like You’ve Never Seen It’s Rocks Before
Owner and Guide Joe Holman adds new meaning to the term Arizona Rocks! His tour company, Arizona Rocks Tours, is based in Sedona, Arizona, and Joe is all about sharing the beauty of the Colorado Plateau with visitors. But more important than the beauty is Joe’s desire to share the amazing history and geology of the area with his guests. Understanding how the land was formed and the ancient peoples who once lived there makes these often desolate stretches of land come to life. Which is why tours with Joe really ROCK!
Your tour experience with Arizona Rocks will be completely unique. There are no set stops or stopping times and Joe lets you take all the time you need to soak in the wonder. Best of all, you learn so much about the land and the people and build an appreciation for what life was like both before and after European settlers came to the area. “I always wanted to be a teacher, and this gives me a chance to indulge the frustrated professor in me. A lot of the people I take to Grand Canyon or around Sedona have never been here before and may never get back here again. So it’s important to take my time and let people really enjoy the experience and explore everything they want to see.”
Arizona Rocks has two tours at the moment, but more are in development. You can take a road trip to the Grand Canyon (by way of Oak Creek Canyon and the San Francisco volcanic fields), or you can choose to take a local tour in the Sedona area, which goes to some out of the way beautiful places. In the works are trips to Bryce and Zion National Parks and other destinations along the Colorado Plateau.
Joe is eminently qualified to lead these tours. His love of the outdoors started about the same time he learned to walk, and his first visit to the Grand Canyon more than 30 years ago solidified his love of the Southwest. Throughout his life, Joe has taken courses to learn about the native people of the southwest, geology and archeology classes and field studies, as well as first aid and CPR classes, plus a food handlers license to name just a few. He’s literally a walking encyclopedia of Southwestern legend and lore and prepared for every eventuality. “I am proud that my guides and I know what we are talking about … from geology to Native American history and Paleo-Indians culture. I joke with my guests and warn them that I can talk about geology and history for hours (which is so true), and ask them to tell me when they’ve heard enough. I’m not just a guide, but more of an interpreter of the Southwest. I want to leave my guests with wonderful memories and stories,” says Joe.
His guests more than agree that Arizona Rocks Tours is a unique experience. Says Cris Mitchell of Pismo Beach, California, “100% 2 Thumbs Way Up on my recent Tour of Sedona with Joe. His knowledge of local area history and geology, accompanied by his great story telling, made my afternoon with him an absolute pleasure. When you want something a little more personal than what the other local tour companies can offer Joe is your man!”
We look for great things from Arizona Rocks Tours in the future! So keep checking back on their website for more exciting developments!
