Spring training in the baseball world offers unparalleled opportunities for fans to scout their favorite teams and to get up close and personal with the players, especially in the Cactus League in Phoenix, Arizona.

Professional baseball has had a presence in Arizona since the early 1900’s when minor league teams frequently stopped in Arizona to play exhibition games before their regular season. It wasn’t until 1946, however, that the Cactus League first began to take shape. The Cleveland Indians owner, Bill Veeck brought his team to Arizona and convinced New York Giants owner Horace Stoneham to do the same.

Fifteen teams call the Valley of the Sun home during spring training.

  • AZ – Arizona Diamondbacks
  • CHI – Chicago Cubs
  • CIN – Cincinnati Reds
  • CLE – Cleveland Indians
  • COL – Colorado Rockies
  • CWS – Chicago White Sox
  • KC – Kansas City Royals
  • LAA – Angels Baseball
  • LAD – Los Angeles Dodgers
  • MIL – Milwaukee Brewers
  • OAK – Oakland A’s
  • SD – San Diego Padres
  • SEA – Seattle Mariners
  • SF – San Francisco Giants
  • TEX – Texas Rangers

The 2011 season set all-time records for overall league attendance with 1,595,614 attendees at 233 games. The newest stadium, Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, opened in 2011, wowing fans with the beauty of the grounds and the many amenities.
