Denver has literally thousands of things to do and see during the holidays, but here are See The Southwest’s top picks (in no particular order) to help you celebrate the season.
1. Zoo Lights
The Denver Zoo goes all out during the holidays with miles of lighted walkways and displays.
2. The Nutcracker Ballet
Watch the sugarplum fairies and other fanciful delights in the Nutcracker Ballet at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
3. Christkindl Craft Market
Held in Skyline Park, artisans from Germany and other European countries join local craftspeople to sell their beautiful handmade gifts. Traditional foods, sweets and drinks are also available.
4. Denver Botanic Garden Blossom of Lights
The gardens are swathed in twinkling holiday lights and ice sculptures along the garden paths sparkle with winter magic.
5. Santa on the Square
Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, Santa wants to hear about it at Larimer Square in downtown Denver.
6. Ice Skating
Ice skate in the great outdoors on the frozen Evergreen Lake located about 20 minutes from Denver. Weather permitting, the lake opens in December for ice skating.
7. High Tea at the Brown Palace
Delicate finger sandwiches, scones and miniature pastries accompany your choice of gourmet tea served in a silver pitcher. The treats are especially grand during the holidays, although you can have high tea year around.
8. Molly Brown House
A reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by candlelight sets the stage for an old-fashioned Christmas at the Molly Brown house.
9. “A Christmas Carol” Musical
Enjoy Charles Dickens’ heartwarming tale set to music at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
10. Messiah by Candlelight
The Colorado Symphony Orchestra presents two outstanding holiday performances each year – Colorado Christmas and Messiah by Candlelight.
