Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Museum of Natural History and Science offers a wonderful journey of exploration and learning. Meet New Mexico’s giant dinosaurs, walk through a volcano or explore the solar system.
The core of the museum’s exhibits is called Time Tracks. Time Tracks offers a journey through billions of years of New Mexico’s natural history, from the formation of the universe to the present day. It starts Origins -from the beginning of the universe through the Paleozoic Era. Then moves on to the Dawn of the Dinosaurs and then into the Age of the Super Giants, when huge dinosaurs roamed New Mexico. Around 144 million years ago, New Mexico was inundated by an inland sea. 65 million years ago, New Mexico experienced extensive volcanic activity including one of only 10 super volcanoes in the world. Eventually, the tumult died down and extensive grasslands developed throughout much of New Mexico. Thanks to so much volcanic activity, New Mexico is riddled with caves which were shaped around 4 million years ago. And finally, learn what happened to New Mexico’s landscape during the most recent ice age roughly 10,000 years ago.

If your trek through time hasn’t worn you out, stop by the Lockheed Martin DynaTheater, with digital 3D viewing and Dolby surround sound. Films change all the time, but in the past visitors have enjoy and 3D surfing experience in Fiji, Galapagos 3D, a run through tornado alley, and holiday specials like The Lights Before Christmas.

And finally, the Planetarium is a must see on your tour. Travel to the stars and beyond to see the universe as never before. There are several options and shows you can attend including Impact Earth and what happens if a comet or asteroid strikes earth, as well as how these space visitors help shape our planet.

Don’t miss the NatureWorks Discovery Store on your way out for great take home games, books, artwork and mementos. The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.
