Get Deep in the Wilderness with 360 Adventures

July 23, 2008

{openx:1}If you want to get off the beaten path and see the really remote areas of Arizona, or just have fun trying something you’ve never done before, then 360 Adventures is a great place to start. Their mission is to create positive memorable outdoor experiences for their guests and their guides. 360 Adventures’ passions are mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, backpacking and canyoneering. Canyoneering is a combination of hiking, wading, swimming, scrambling, and rappelling through some of the most beautiful canyons in the country.

Adventures Designed for You!
360 Adventures owner Bruce Leadbetter took a unique approach to creating adventures for his guests. “I asked all of my guides what they would do if they had 3-10 days to spend in the American Southwest,” says Bruce. “I was surprised at what they came up with. Sure, the itineraries feature some popular locations like Scottsdale, Sedona and the Grand Canyon; but what I wasn’t anticipating were the “lesser known,” but intriguing, adventure options, locations and points of interest. Together, we created terrific destination packages for our guests. We offer standard adventure packages, but can also customize an adventure to meet the clients’ requests.”

At 360 Adventures, outdoor activities like hiking and climbing aren’t limited to those who have some experience. Bruce and his team are prepared to teach the beginners as well as challenge the experts.

Corporate Retreats and Team Building
360 Adventures frequently works with corporations and creates terrific team building adventures. For instance, coworkers can be teamed up and learn to work together to climb a mountain. One of Bruce’s favorite options, because he gets to be a taste-tester, is the Salsa Challenge team-building event. Coworkers divide into teams and have to create their own personal salsa mixture. They have to come up with a theme, the artwork and a tempting display as well as serve their mix to the other groups.

Professional Guides
Guides for 360 Adventures are extremely professional so you are in good hands when you venture out with them. They go through rigorous training, not only in their own outdoor adventure, but all are required to have First Aid and CPR certifications, and some of the guides have First Responder and Wilderness First Aid certifications.

“I look for guides who have a unique combination of talents,” says Bruce. They have to be good at what they do (backpacking, hiking, biking, climbing or canyoneering), but they also have to have the ability to show customers great locations, teach guests some of the tricks of their sport, and they have to love doing it. They have to have a great love for the outdoors, but also be able to respond to problems and emergencies. My mountain biking guides even have to be good mechanics so they can fix mechanical problems on the trail.”

As a former United States Marine, Bruce’s training regimes for his guides can be very realistic. He frequently takes them out and plays the part of an injured climber, biker or hiker and his guides have to figure out how to rescue him. “I tell them that if they drop me on the way back down they are in big trouble,” Bruce jokes. He puts them on the hot seat all the time and surprises them with questions designed to help them build their decision-making and emergency responder skills under pressure.
