Humbug Ghost Town

February 16, 2009

In the southern Bradshaw Mountains lie the ruins of the Humbug Ghost Town, an unspoiled example of an Arizona mining camp from the early 1880′s that was inhabited on and off into the 1940s . Located on private property, the ghost town is seen by few and there are several active claims in the area still producing gold.

But if you are a ghost town hunter or are interested in the Territorial mining history of Arizona you are in luck.

Dave Burns, one of the owners of Humbug and an active miner on the El Paro Bonito claim in the area is inviting interested parties for a guided tour of the town on the weekend of March 7th and 8th 2009.

You are welcome to camp overnight in the area, just bring food, bedroll and non-alcoholic beverages. Dave will also be accepting donations to offset the costs.

If you would like to meet with a group heading to the area, please meet at the northwest end of Lake Pleasant on the 7th at approximately 9:00 AM. If you plan on joining this group please RSVP to Neal Du Shane at n.j.dushane (at) comcastDOTnet and let him know you read about the event on SeeTheSouthwest.com.

You are more than welcome to head to the outing without the group as well. Four Wheel Drive is recommened for the last 4 miles but with high-clearance you should be able to reach the area.

For more information on Humbug and for directions to the town visit Neal Du Shane’s Humbug History website.
