{openx:10}Ever feel the need to just relax? Silly question. One of the best places in Colorado to pamper your mind, body and soul is Glenwood Hot Springs! There isn’t a better place than the “Grand Spring,” the supplier of the nearly three block long, super-sized, natural mineral pool.
The Ute Indians used the healing qualities of these waters for their tribes people for many generations. Yampah, or “big medicine” was the center of healing in the Rockies. The springs were later discovered by pioneers around the mid 1800s and used by miners, gunslingers and some of our most well known and respected presidents, i.e. President Roosevelt. With temperatures ranging from 90 degrees up to the natural 127 degrees, the Hot Springs Pool is regulated and the temperature kept at a comfortable 90-93 degrees in the main pool while the healing waters of the therapy pool are closer to 104 degrees. But before taking a dive into the deep end or tubing down one of the water slides, put down those bags and change.
The Hot Springs Lodge has 107 rooms available, and with the purchase of a room comes unlimited pool access and a continental breakfast. The lodge also offers a full size athletic club with more than just elliptical machines and treadmills. Sign up for Yoga or Pilates classes, utilize the racquetball courts and afterwards enjoy the private sunbathing deck, whirlpool, steam room and sauna. Speaking of soothing relaxation, the newly renovated spa, Spa of the Rockies, with all of its mineral soaks and healing treatments is always inviting and even available to those not staying at the lodge. And yes, there is even a miniature golf course on site as well. Prices range from the low hundreds on up, but Glenwood Springs is celebrating their 125 year anniversary in 2010 so check out their anniversary deal!
The Hot Springs pool is open year around. In the winter, maneuver in the mist that rises off of the pool and make snow angels on the pool deck, or in the summer, sunbathe on the lawn and check out the Colorado River and the surrounding mountain scenery. Walk around historic Glenwood Springs, raft the Colorado River, climb Mt. Sopris (12,965 ft) or enjoy a good steak; all options within walking distance of the pool.
